Protecting the World of Fashion Design
The world of fashion gets an unfair treatment compared to other artists who has laws to protect their work. There isn’t however a single law that protects entire fashion designs. Copyrighting fashion designs affects discount consumers, discount retailers, generic label producers, and inspiring fashion designs negatively, which makes them disapprove the idea of copyright. Although I am a discount consumer, I believe in one form or another, designers do need their works protected in order to get recognized for their work both financially and artistically.
Many employers that sell “knock off” brands are against the whole idea of copyright solely because it is their way of making money. New designers who look to high fashion designers will no longer be able to use their inspiration as way to come up with their own designs. The small detailing that distinguishes the two designs will no longer be permitted. Most small businesses don’t have enough money to fight off lawyers against piracy claims. Money will be lost and they’ll eventually lose their business.
After putting in several hours and money into sketching designs, determining what fabric to use, etc a designer isn’t even given credit for being the first to put that design out in the market. Putting together fashion shows and creating designs takes hours of hard work and dedication. Because fashion is advertised through television, newspapers, magazines, etc it’s easier for works to be seen, and for more ideas to be created. The fashion industry is a multi-billion dollar industry, and it grows rapidly. It shouldn’t be legal for someone to imitate an original design and sell it to the public, with no punishment. Copying isn’t the only means of introducing fashion. It’s been mentioned that designers have been denied protection by law also because consumers feel that designs are useful articles, and aren’t potent enough to be protected.
The Design Piracy Prohibition Act should be taken into effect because designers too will be able to get their works protected. Designers have relied on other forms of protection, and it is clear with the amount of discount stores and “knock off” brands, that they aren’t effective. For many years designers have been trying to get their works copyrighted but has been denied protections, because there isn’t a law that protects their design. Getting permission from the designers themselves to use their designs would be the most appropriate form to take. Money will still be made, fashions will still be created, and designers will get recognition for their work.
Female athletes vs Male Athletes
Have you ever sat and watched television, and realized that every commercial you seen about basketball, football, baseball, or any sport, were about male athletes? Male athletes are seen on commercials promoting shoes, drinks, sportswear, but not too often do you see a female athlete. Male athletes and the sports they play are the talk of the country. Females however are rarely mentioned. Female representation in sports media should be equal to or more than men’s representation in sports media. Men should no longer dominate the media of sports. The culture we live in is very gender stereotypical, and the media plays an important role as influences to others.
People felt it would be easy to put a quick fix to this problem by getting more women in the industry. The media however has taken over and has given male athletes roles as masculine successful sportsmen, who are way more important than women. When women are too muscular, too aggressive, and too competitive, they’re no longer seen as beautiful in the public’s eye. Men are way more aggressive by nature, which makes them more competitive than female athletes.
We use the media for news and entertainment.. If women aren’t feminine enough society pushes them away, and focuses on other aspects, assuming possibly that the woman is a lesbian. Media has a big influence on this.Sports are an important aspect in our culture. It’s not just going to go away. The only way to make situations effective and fair is to provide women with the same opportunities as the male athletes.

Violent Gaming takes on Positive roles in education
Many critics in the gaming world believe that video games bring violence and harm to our children of the future. While people are constantly looking at the negatives of the gaming world, they aren’t realizing the positivity gaming is bringing in the classrooms. While parents believe it’s acceptable to teach their children to not provoke violence, they’re also teaching them to not live in reality. Video games teaches children, between the ages of 7 and 14, about character development, introduces them to computer and or information technology, and teaches them logic and reasoning. Whether violence is being taught or not, society itself can be dangerous to our children.
I know you’re probably thinking, what does video games has to do with a child’s logic and reasoning? Well, you think about this…what does the basic theme of video games ask children to do? The majority of video games played have some sort of conflict theme, requiring the children to create a solution. Because they have specific tasks to follow, they must follow rules precisely, memorize what is being asked, and memorize what they’ve learned in the early stages of the game to move on to the next level. Many problems we face in life today are strongly based on problem solving and logic and reasoning. Being able to think quickly on their feet, are great test taking skills for children
With increasing advancements of technology today, it’s important for gaming to help educators introduce children to information technology. Computers are in almost every classroom in the American society. Playing these games can lead to fascination with technology, and perhaps lead them in to a great career. They can be anything from writers of comics, to game designers, to even graphic designers. Even those who don’t make careers out of the use of gaming, they now have the knowledge of technology that can be taken even further.
In essence, the gaming world can be summarized as an educational tool, used to facilitate children’s learning abilities. The problem solving themes of gaming doesn’t teach a child to be violent, but to strategize and to use logic and reasoning to help solve these problems. The use of technology is rapidly increasing in the United States today and is an important part of society. Gaming, whether they’re on online games used for computers or game systems, introduces children to information technology. The positive outcomes gaming leaves on children and their education helps me agree with Jones; “I am going to argue that it’s helped hundreds of people for everyone it’s hurt, and that it can help far more if we learn to use it well”
